This has just been an amazingly crazy and busy week! I had resolved that when I returned from vacation, I would start working on my blog, for real. And I resolved to exercise a hour a day a and only eat super-healthy things. AND I resolved to have a spectacularly fun summer doing amazingly fun things. There would be no end to the amazing adventures I would have this year. I would make this the best summer EVER!
And then vacation ended.
So everybody please bear with me. I know it looks like I have turned my blog into a big billboard with all the ads I put up. Please be patient. Blog entries like this take some time to write, but the ads run automatically.
On the happier side, I shot pictures today for the first time since last Christmas. My wonderful photographer Kevin shot about 200 images today. It is sort of a relief not to be on Southern charms at the moment, although I will be re-opening the site sometime this fall. For now, I like the fact that when we are shooting, we can take our time and concentrate of the makeup, the lighting, the poses, and so on.
Before when I was on SC, we were just shooting for production. What I mean is, we were trying to make as many pictures as possible in a short amount of time. I would come in and say, "I need to make 10 sets of pictures, 50 pictures each. Let's get to work!" So when I approached it like that, it really did feel like work. I would come to Kevin's house with a bunch of different outfits. We would start with one outfit and work through my whole bag until we were exhausted and it was time to go home. We would shoot a hundred or more of each outfit. I don't need to tell you, not all the pictures were publication quality!
Well, Kevin and I are both scientists by training, and that means we are both perfectionists. We were not happy with the quality of the pictures, in spite of the fact that my SC page was super-popular. We wanted to focus more on making good pictures, not just lots of pictures. So the last couple of times I went over there, we slowed down and spent lots of time talking about hair and makeup and facial expression and posing. I admit to being completely clueless about lighting and all the workings of a camera. At first I was content to sit in the middle of the picture and let the photography go on around me. I coudn't have cared less about how the image of me got inside the camera. And for his part, Kevin was happy to let me put on whatever dress and makeup I wanted, and then try to adjust the lighting to what I had done.
Now we are trying to work together more, to make the pictures look better from the very start. Today we looked at pictures and talked about the lighting and the poses. We checked my makeup in the lighting about 4 times as I was putting it on. We talked aobut what we wanted to produce every step of the way. I peeked at the pictures in the cvamera and they looked pretty good to me.
Kevin called me while I was driving home and said, "You are going to LOVE these! They are the best ones yet!"
As soon as I have a picture, I'll post it so you can see!
