Days like today, I love modeling. I worked with a new photographer Jeff (from White Canvas). He was really a dream to work with.

My basic theory of the model/photographer relationship is that we are both artists---a couple of artists collaborating to make some exciting images. Each brings his or her own talents and skills to the shoot. Neither party should be "in charge" of or dictating the shoot. Rather, we should feed off each other's energy and ideas to create pictures that are far better than either one could come up with alone.

I pay for my pictures exclusively through the time-honored barter arrangement TFP--Time For Pictures. Therefore, I consider my time and my photographer's time to be of equal value. I also consider our needs to have equal weight and our opinions to be of equal value.

Lately I have been coming up with a lot of dud photographers, all who want to shoot me posed, without props, on a plain background. They never seem to have any new ideas, just tell me "Oh, anything you want to do is fine...."

Unfortunately, I am out of new ideas. I've been a bit burnt out lately, to say the least. I dunno....blank backdrops just don't speak to me, yanno...?

Ah, but today's guy was different. Jeff was funny, creative, and full of suggestions and ideas. He knew how to help me pose, but trusted me to find my own poses, too. He used my ideas, and had his own ideas, as well. He was very considerate of my needs and comfort, trying always to make sure I was warm enough and didn't have to hold an uncomfortable pose for too long.

Technically, he is a wizard with lighting and camera angles. He had a couple of nifty clip lights that he could put just anywhere. He was constantly moving them to get the best effect. He was also great about changing camera angles and getting a variety of poses, but not so many I was repeating poses I know I had done before.

Needless to say, this guy Jeff rocks! I can't wait to show you the pictures!

Thinking about new directions

Funny thing about snowy nights when I don't go to work . . . I start thinking about what I would like to do with my website. Sitting around watching the cars crawl down the state road and trying to convince myself I really did the right thing by staying home, I get irritated. I feel like I should be doing something.

Doing Something usually results in tearing up my website and starting over, or spending several snowbound days researching huge and time-consuming projects that I will never have time to start. This time I am considering hiring someone to retouch some of my pictures and having them made into things--postcards, mugs, calenders, etc. At least my husband will have fun with them!

This year's plans also include a shop for selling my used gym socks, panty hose, and other items.

As for modelling, I am sick to death of photographers who want to shoot me on a blank background, just doing pose after pose. I get bored with my own pictures just editing them! This year, I am looking for photographers who know how to collaborate like my first photog Tony did (I miss you, man!) and also for male and female modelling partners to make things interesting.

Other projects for the new year include continuing to sculpt and perfect my body (it's like all other women's work--never done!) and doing more mainstream modelling.

An interesting surprise....

The best thing about my job is. . . . you never know what will happen.

Today I got a visit form an old friend. He isn't just an old friend . . . he's my old boyfriend.

Not just any old boyfriend . . . my second ever boyfriend.

Not just my second boyfriend . . . my first affair . . . my first lover . . . .

And a huge formative influence in my life.

I met this man when I was all of 18. He is 10 years my senior. At the time I had known only one boyfriend, whom I was engaged to marry, and had experienced only the kind of sex two high school virgins can have.

This is the man who introduced me to coffee . . . alcohol . . . chocolate truffles (some of the greatest pleasures of my life) . . . . not to mention, cunnilingus.

Seriously, folks. This is the first man with whom I experienced grown-up sex. He had the pleasure of taking an 18-year-old almost-virgin and showing me that sex can be fun, exciting, playful . . . and not necessarily entwined with love.

At the time I thought he was the smartest man I'd ever met, and that may still be the truth. It was he, not my parents, who took me to see the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty. He spent years, on and off, showing me glimpses of a world outside the rural small town where I lived. He thought I was smart and beautiful and, because he believed it, sometimes I did, too.

Eventually I joined the Army, in part because he had, and eventually we lost touch . . . . Eventually he found me again.

I think it was 2 years ago, he found me on Facebook. We had drinks. He asked if he could come see me at work. I refused. He came anyway one day and I humiliated him in front of God-n-everybody. Regardless, we still have drinks sometimes.

So he showed up again today. Granted, I had told him it was OK for him to come, and i had promised not to yell at him again. But I had no idea he was actually going to come.

And, yeah, I danced for him. Was it strange? A little, but only if I thought about it. Mostly it was wonderful. I loved dancing for this man. It was incredible, being able to share this aspect of myself with someone who placed much of the foundation. I felt proud of what I had made of myself, from what he had given me. I felt sexy and beautiful and elegant and strong. I felt amazing.

So look, my friend, see what you did, what you gave me. See what I became. Be proud of me. Be proud of us.

The Photographer Release

This is the release I have to make you sign. Please do not be alarmed by it. I will return the rights to you to publish about 10% of what we do in any given session to edit, manipulate, or publish as you please, so long as you do not use my own images to compete with me or my publisher, Southern Charms. Should you want to use images of me for your portfolio, advertisements, art gallery, Photoshop projects, that is perfectly all right with me. Should you also want exclusive rights to anything we shoot, that is also fine with me. We can work out just about anything.

I have to make you sign this release because I, in my turn, have to sign over digital distribution rights to Southern Charms. While I am not getting rich from SC, they do support my habit and provide an audience for me. In return, I have to provide them with exclusive content. Of course, I cannot give them rights to the pictures if I do not have rights to them myself. That is where the release comes in.

grants each model the same Rights severally and independent of all others. It is agreed by all parties that no model shall have the authority or right to limit the use of
images/videos by any other Model(s) covered under this release.

This transfer of ownership and copyright does not include any other releases which may be required by law for their use, including, but not limited to, releases of other Models or Property depicted in the images/videos, and specifically excludes copyRights held by others, such as logos, titles, names, etc.

Pictures I would like to shoot (Content)

So many photographers lately have been asking me what kinds of pictures I would like to shoot.

My content ideas fall into several categories:

Pin-up:I adore all kinds of pin-ups, classic and modern. I spend a bit of time trying to copy my own pin-up idols and to create new and different kinds of pin-up inspired images. I really love the pictures where the girl is caught in an accidentally revealing pose, as in many Gil Elvgren paintings (see below).

Mild Fetish: The following is a list of some ideas I have recently been kicking around for fetish shoots. It is by no means a complete list of every kind of fetish image I want to make, just a few ideas.

What I am going for is sort of light fetish-y stiff, the kind of thing many men wish their wives would do for them but the wives won't.

Besides doing special fetish-themed sets, I also try to incorporate shoes, boots, stockings, panty hose, bare feet, satiny or silk lingerie, or role-play costumes into almost every set.

Glamour Boudoir: Extremely glamorous and sexy boudoir pictures, like you might find in Playboy

Location Sets: Outdoors, Beaches, Parks, Mechanic's shops, Doctor's offices .... Anyplace that suggests a theme for some pictures.

Posing with old, hot cars: Enough said! Same for bikes, tractors, trucks--A sexy woman and a hot machine--what more would you want?

Playing with Light, Shadow, Color, Poses, etc.: Recently I did an entire set where I was posing as if I was a ballet dancer. I have posed for black-and-white body scapes, mirror images, silhouettes, images shot through doors and other voyeuristic angles, and more. I love the way you can manipulate what the viewer sees and doesn't see with the use of light, shadows, props, poses, colors, etc. This is one of the most fascinating aspects of photography to me.

Lifestyle Sequences: These are something I have not done much of, but would like to try to do more. The idea of this is that I start out in the first picture doing something perfectly normal, for example making breakfast or grocery shopping, and by the last picture, I am naked and about to be naughty. A fun take on this would be the absolutely absurd sequences Bettie Page posed for in the mens magazines like Wink in the 1950's.

Military: Being a former Army chick myself, I like to give a nod to my bro's still on duty. I have some of my old gear, and I want to bring in more.

I also would like to mix things up a little, with things like pin-up bondage, glamour boudoir settings that involve slightly messy food,using interesting filters, shooting form long, voyeuristiccamera angles, getting my pin-up and role-play costumes wet, and so on.

First Responders at the Twin Towers--Stuff we should never forget

My husband is a paramedic. The day the Twin Towers fell, paramedics and EMTs died in those buildings along with the firefighters they were there to support. In the days that followed, dozens or even hundreds more flocked to New York to join in the search and rescue efforts. Some were sent by their employers--not only municipalities but also private companies picked up the tab to send personnel and equipment to the disaster. Many others went on their own time, at their own expense.

What does America have to say to these brave, generous men and women:

Fortunately not everyone thinks this way. This man has made a very nice tribute page. Apparently he is a paramedic himself. I wish he could get more attention to his page. More people need to know what our brave paramedics and EMTs did that day.

For TFP Photographers--The Primer

Below is a collection of articles I have written to help TFP photographers understand what I need and what I am about. Many models who do TFP images are new in the business and need a few good shots for their portfolios. They can shoot 60 frames, and if one comes out well, they are happy. This is not the case with me. I need large sets of a specific type.

I have also discovered many "photographers" who say they want to shoot TFP are not what they claim to be at all. Frequently they are just a guy with a camera who wants some home-made dirty pictures or wants to get laid. Sorry, I don't provide those services.

On the other hand, I have been contacted by many talented professional photographers who say they want to shoot me, but are willing to relinquish only a few retouched and perfected images. While I would like to work with these photographers, it is a waste of my time to shoot for a whole day and get nothing I can use on my website.

For TFP Photographers--My Artistic Vision

This is my guiding principle: Sex should be fun! Modelling should be fun!

I spent much of my life wishing my life and my body could be different. Now I am in my 40's and I am finally getting the body I have been working for--I always wished I could be a model and now I am modelling for my hobby--and I am having the time of my life!

I have always admired Bettie Page and the pin-up beauties of the 1940's for their beguiling combination of inviting sexuality and light-hearted fun. I love the way these women are portrayed--comfortable with themselves, generous and inviting in their sexuality, beautiful and almost approachable but by definition still out of reach. I believe it was this joyful enthusiasm that Playboy was trying to capture when it named its centerfolds "Playmates."

In all my pictures, I am trying to capture that playful quality. Depending on the costuming and the theme of the set, I might be inviting the viewer "Let's play stripper--I'll tease you while I take my clothes off!" or "Let's play with whipped cream!" or "Let's play dress-up! I'll be the pirate . . . " or even "Let's play bondage!" Throughout everything, the general theme is, "Let's play!"

After all, I'm playing "Supermodel"--why should I have all the fun?

A note about nudity:

Most or all of the images I create through TFP agreements are destined for my Southern Charms site. Being on Southern Charms is kind of like living in a condo: You can do whatever you like with your own space, so long as you follow the rules. While SC is widely known as an amateur porn site, we Charms have complete creative control over our own pages. The only requirements are that we stay within the law and that we get nude at some point. That being said, please understand that I am not a porn model and I do not do porn on my site. I do Playboy-level nudes and implied nudes. While I do full frontal nudity, I do not do spreads or pinks. If you have any doubt about what this means, picture some of the great nudes you have seen in fine art. If you can't see it in an art museum,. you won't see it on my site.

For TFP Photographers--Compensation

It should go without saying that TFP means "Time For Pictures" as in a barter agreement. However, I still get many strange requests that can only be the result of people being unclear on the concept. *Please understand that I cannot afford to pay cash!* These are my terms of TFP:

WHAT I NEED:

3 or more sets of 50-150 usable images (See "What is a Photo Set" if you are unclear what this means) that are focused, clear, and properly lighted.
A CD from the shoot to take home with me.
Rights to the .jpg images need to be signed over to me.
A link to my portfolio or website when you publish images of me.

WHAT YOU GET:

A patient, professional model who will work with you to create interesting and beautiful images
Hundreds of raw images you can photo-shop, retouch, and manipulate to your heart's content
Rights to publish any photo-shopped or retouched image
If you want, credit on my websites, portfolios, etc, wherever our images appear

WHAT I DON'T DO:

Pay actual cash for images or photo sessions. Yes, I really am paying for this with my good looks.
Spread shots or "pink" shots for any reason for any TFP shoot.
Sexual acts for pictures
Sexual favors for photographers

For TFP Photographers--The session

If we decide to shoot TFP (Time for Pictures) I want to make sure we both make the most of our time. Therefore:

WHAT I EXPECT FROM YOU:

I will need to get at least 3 sets of 50 or more USABLE (clear, focused, properly lit) images. Each set should take about an hour, so please plan accordingly.
We will have planned our sets before the day of the shoot. I will no longer be showing up to a shoot with no clear idea of what I will be doing.
Please have lights, background, etc. set up when I arrive. I will be driving to you while you are setting up.
If you have pictures you want to look at for inspiration or whatever, please show them to me. I love new ideas!
After each set, we will take a minute to review the pictures we have got and discuss how to make the next set better.
Be ready to give me CDs with my images on them.If you don't have CDs or a CD drive, please tell me before the shoot. We will have to work out other arrangements.
Be prepared to sign a photographers release
I do not do spread shots so please don't ask
I allow myself to be tied only loosely and only when I have brought and escort
PLEASE refrain from making sexual comments or vulgar statements. We are both here to work, not to get laid.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME:

I will turn up on time or I will let you know if I am running late.
If I can't make the session, I will tell you as soon as I know for sure.
I will bring everything I need for my sets, unless we have previously arranged for you to bring or provide something (for example, if you have access to something I do not have)
I work fast. I change poses quickly. While I do take direction well, I do not have to be "posed" like a Barbie Doll.
I am pleasant, businesslike, and drama-free. I am easy to get along with.
I have a pretty god idea of what I want and need form my images. I will work with you in every way possible to make sure we both get what we want.
I believe in communication. The more we can talk to each other, the better the pictures will be.

For TFP Photographers--Technical Requirements

If you want to shoot me for TFP (Time for Pictures) I will almost always be happy to work with you. My site requires an exhausting number of updates, so whenever I can shoot a set (See "What is a Photo Set?" if you din't know what that means) I am usually up for it.

Although Southern Charms is an amateur website, the photos do need to be professional quality. Before I agree to work with you, I will need to see some samples of your work. Your Model Mayhem page or online portfolio will do nicely.

You need to have some kind of a serious camera (Like a Cannon or Olympus SLR type, no point-n-shoot) and if you are working indoors, proper lighting. I will no longer be going to shoots where the "Photographer" (read: dude with camera) wants to put me against a blank wall and use ambient room light. In my experience these shoots NEVER turn out well.

All photos must be at least 640x480 pixels in size. I prefer to have them about 1200 pixels or more on the long side, and the very best quality you camera can produce. I will do my own editing.

Please bear in mind that I am producing HUGE sets for submission. The pictures need to be ready to go, with only minimal cropping or light adjustment. It is not possible for me to photo-shop 300 pictures to correct some problem that could have been prevented by better planning. This would include weird or ugly things in the background, bits of hair standing up, funky coloring issues, etc. I need my photographers to work with me to prevent things like that.

This will be a little more challenging than some people are used to, I know. I am old-school and started modeling when we still used film, which was hideously expensive. I still have the PRINTS from my first session, and every one of them was usable. Therefore I know it can be done.

For TFP Photographers--What is a Photo Set?

Short answer: A set is a series of 50-150 minimally-edited .jpg images, all related to a single theme, that I can post to my web site. I normally require 3 sets or more per photo shoot.

Explanation: Unlike most models who want TFP photo shoots, I am not building or updating a portfolio. Rather, I am a model on Southern Charms, the world's largest amateur website. You can see my personal page here.

My main purpose for shooting TFP is make sets of pictures to post on my Southern Charms Site. When you go to the Photo Page, you will see a selection of over 100 thumbnails. Each of those thumbnails represents a set of 50-150 photographs. In most cases, the sets begin with me fully clothed and then progress through a strip-tease until I am nearly or completely nude. Each set includes pantyhose or stockings, shoes or boots, bare feet, upskirts and down blouses. Some sets involve an activity of some kind (having a picnic, mixing drinks, etc) and others are just a series of poses. As I move through the sets, I may remove and replace various pieces of clothing, so any given set will likely include poses where I am completely clothed, wearing a bra and a skirt with stockings, a bra and skirt without stockings, a blouse and panties with and then without stockings, skirt and stockings with and without panties, etc.

Some sets are fairly simple: They begin with me, the model, in a pretty dress or lingerie, and then over a series of images, I lose the dress, lingerie, stockings, shoes, and whatever else I have.

Other sets can be more complex. They may involve a short scenario; for example, I am coming home from work, pouring a drink, rubbing my feet, and taking a shower.

Some sets are more artistic in nature. These may include light-and-shadow studies, bodyscapes, tributes to my own pin-up heroes (both models and artists), implied nudes, and so forth.

Almost all my sets include common fetishes like lingerie, silk, hosiery, footwear, bare feet, and the like. Some of my sets involve less common but still fun themes like light bondage, food play, costumes and role-play.

I am currently working to include some other models in my sets, both male and female.

Todays Morning Coffee Project

Every day I have a Morning Coffee project. It is something (supposedly) I can do while drinking my morning Joe, and then feel like I have accomplished something. Today' s project involves linking the blog on my personal site (http://colleenoreilly.com) and the blog on Blogger (http://colleenoreilly.blogspot.com/) so I can post to both of them at one time.

Mice in the walls

Tuesday night, the blizzard is raging outside my little old rehabbed school house. I am up late, working alone. A single lamp burns in the living room, so that if there were any cars on the state road , they would see the warm inviting windows. My office is bright and warm, my old granny-cat curled on my lap. Occasionally I turn out the lights and peek through the window. I can see only snowflakes and darkness, whirling together in the night. The wind howls and beats the walls.

This house that has stood here for more than a hundred years is snug and warm around me. This is not the worst storm it has seen. Its walls have held back worse winds, sheltered us and other families from other terrible storms. I feel safe and warm here in the circle of my lamp.

Upstairs my guys are sleeping. On cold nights, our son and his five pet mice and our hamster all pile into the master bedroom, fire up the electric heater, and snuggle in. The faint rumble of an exercise wheel filters through the ceiling, which of course is the floor directly above me.

I can hear a faint scratching in the wall near the chimney. It is a mouse family, hidden in the walls. All country houses have mice, as far as I know. They come in from the fields in autumn, sheltering in secluded crannies of old buildings, and wait out the cold and the storms. They don’t hurt anything. I understand their need for shelter and I bear them no malice.

Far above me and the mice, in our attic, generations of lady bugs are hibernating and cellar spiders are spinning webs. Some other family I don’t know might be secreted up there, too, all riding out the winter.

Tomorrow when the storm dies, I will put extra suet in the feeders, make some popcorn for the starlings, and toss out some nuts for the squirrels. For the moment, we are all safe--the ladybugs and the spiders and the mice, my family and pets and I. We are safe here, together, in this old schoolhouse, in the storm.
